3D Printing
Overview
At Alpine Prototyping and Design we offer 3D Printing services for a range of clients and applications.
Alpine prototyping can assist with a range of 3D printing services
- We offer 3D printing in a range of materials that each have their pros and cons.
The Materials we use can be seen on our Materials page
- We can print in any size as larger size models can be broken up
into parts to be printed and glued or plastic welded together
- Our maximum size in a single piece without gluing or welding is 200mm x 140mm x 140mm
- We can reproduce parts that have plastic threads or
parts that have metal nuts and bolts moulded into the plastic forms
- If you have a need for a part but are not sure how to make it happen,
we can work together to find a solution that works
The Process
1. The design is accepted as a .stl file by us from the client.
2. The design is analysed to decide if and where supports need to be
placed to allow the design to be printed cleanly and effectively.
3. The design is then sliced for conversion to a printable .g file.
4. The printer then does its magic to create a printed object.
5. The printed object then needs to be cleaned up, supports removed,
raft removed and any stringing that may be present is cleaned off the model.
6. (optional) smoothing techniques may be applied to finish the model off.
Pricing
Quotes are given for all jobs before work commences but here is our template for giving quotes
= $60 per hour of file preperation time
+ 10c per gram of model with supports
+ $10 per hour of print time
+ $60 per hour of cleanup
Optional
+ $60 per vapour smoothing cycle
PRICING NOTES:
- "Water tight" models with no problems usually take 5 minutes to prepare for printing, so $5 in prep fees
- Printed weight and time are given by our slicing program that is available from the Flashforge website.
- Most models need about 5-10 mins cleaning time so $5-10 worth of cleaning. Some models like architectural models that have a large number of openings and associated support structure require a lot more cleaning. Quotations are given based on design complexity.
- multiple models can be put into our vapour smoothing chamber saving you money if smoothing several models
